We already knew this but it is nice to get some official confirmation. The FBI recruits terrorists and convinces them to make terrorist attacks so they can thwart those attacks and get credit for “keeping America safe.” Almost anyone who is approached by “Al Qaeda” in the U.S. is actually being played by government agents.
Thus, yesterday’s Guardian headline: “Government agents ‘directly involved’ in most high-profile US terror plots.”
Nearly all of the highest-profile domestic terrorism plots in the United States since 9/11 featured the “direct involvement” of government agents or informants, a new report says.
Some of the controversial “sting” operations “were proposed or led by informants”, bordering on entrapment by law enforcement. Yet the courtroom obstacles to proving entrapment are significant, one of the reasons the stings persist.
The lengthy report, released on Monday by Human Rights Watch, raises questions about the US criminal justice system’s ability to respect civil rights and due process in post-9/11 terrorism cases. It portrays a system that features not just the sting operations but secret evidence, anonymous juries, extensive pretrial detentions and convictions significantly removed from actual plots.
“In some cases the FBI may have created terrorists out of law-abiding individuals by suggesting the idea of taking terrorist action or encouraging the target to act,” the report alleges.
I’m not as worried as this writer seems to be about the civil rights of people who can be manipulated into trying to kill mass numbers of Americans—assuming they are recruiting people who are of normal intelligence. But you have to admit, kids go bad all the time due to the influence of bad companions. How would you feel if the Federal Government used your tax money to convince your son to do a criminal act? Shouldn’t the government be trying to convince such people that they should never do such a thing?
Moving on, however, from civil rights to national security: how does this activity keep us safe?
If we are truly threatened by terrorists, then how can the government afford the time and resources spent on creating new terrorists? Is the real problem that there are not enough terrorists, so the government needs to manufacture a few more so that it can catch them and prove to us that we would be in real danger if the government was not working hard to protect us?
The Watchdog’s Comments: The FBI would do better if it was dissolved. Since J. Edgar Hoover. The FBI has been involved in blackmailing political figures like the NSA is doing today. This is why we need to return to strong state governments and a very weak central government to corruption and abuse of power i s minimized.
